Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I get a Barnston Box?

Create an account, choose which Barnston Boxes and/or subscription terms interest you, and pay for them.

Can I choose what goes in my Barnston box?

Not at this time, no.

How do I know I won’t get the same produce every week?

We’ve always prided ourselves on providing an elite level of service to our restaurant partners, and we want to do the same for our customers. A big part of that is curating the mix of produce in our Barnston Boxes to make sure you get a nice variety of old favourites and new flavours each week.

What if I really like some items and dislike others?

Please contact us with your feedback. We’ll always listen to what our customers have to say.

What if there’s a problem with my Barnston Box?

If there’s a problem with the quality of the produce in your Barnston Box within the first 24 hours of your having received it, please contact us immediately and we’ll work it out.

Are you doing other types of Barnston Boxes?

We will be. We’re figuring out the basics right now. Once we’ve mastered those, we’ll likely expand our selection of Barnston Boxes.

Do you grow all the produce in the boxes?

We grow some of it. We get some of it from other local growers when their produce becomes available. And we source the rest from our connections and suppliers in the produce industry.

Is your produce certified organic?

Why not?

It’s overly expensive, has a shorter shelf life, and often causes more waste.

What if I want certified organic produce?

I suppose you’ll have to shop somewhere else.

Why are my options so limited?

We’re about as “family” as a family business can get right now. That means we have very limited humanpower to work with, so we’re doing as much as we have capacity for. We’ll hopefully be able to offer you more choices in the nearish future.

Are you hiring?

Possibly. Contact us to see.

Can I just buy one box if I don’t want to subscribe?

Why are some of the subscription prices so high?

We know there may be some sticker shock over the full-term pricing, but when you break it down to a weekly cost, it’s actually cheaper than most supermarkets and other produce delivery services (go ahead and check; we’ll wait here…).

Can I spread out the subscription payments?

Not at this time, no.

Will my subscription price change?

If you’re an ongoing subscriber, the price of your Barnston Boxes will remain grandfathered at the original price you signed on for, provided you do not change or interrupt your subscriptions. But, if you do, we’ll simply adjust your cost to match whatever the current price is if you add a new or change an existing subscription.

What is the service charge for delivery?

$6 per delivery.

Are you really charging $24 or $72 for subscription delivery?

It’s a lump sum gratuity that covers delivery for the whole of your subscription term. It actually breaks down to a tip of $6/week for your delivery driver.

Who gets the delivery service charge?

Your entire gratuity goes to the driver who delivers your Barnston Boxes to your home.

What information do I need to provide for delivery?

Please enter any detailed instructions for us regarding your deliveries (e.g., buzzer numbers, places to stow your Barnston Box outside your house if you’re out, etc.) in the “Order Notes” section on the checkout page.

What if I’m not at home when you deliver my Barnston Box?

Our driver will attempt to contact you via the contact phone number in your account. If you’ll be unable to answer their call, please contact us ahead of time to make alternate arrangements. If we can’t get a hold of you, and we don’t hear from you, we’ll consider your Barnston Box unclaimed and we’ll donate it to the charity of our choosing.

Will I get refunded if that happens?

Sorry, no.

Why don’t you deliver to my area?

Because we don’t have a delivery driver who can cover your area at this time.

When will you offer delivery to my area?

Depends on when we can get a delivery driver who can cover your area.

Are you looking for more delivery drivers?

Possibly. Contact us to see.

When can I pick up my Barnston Box at my hub?

Thursdays. You’ll be notified about the specific hours during which you can pick up your Barnston Boxes from your assigned hub when we confirm your order or subscription.

Are some of your hubs in parking lots?

Yes. In areas where we have yet to find a storefront hub, you can pick up your Barnston Boxes from our company trucks. So, if you’re in one of these areas, please look for a big white Barnston Island Herbs truck stationed in the parking lot of, or nearby, your assigned hub.

Why are the pick-up times so limited?

For the storefront hubs, we go by their hours of operation. For the truck hubs, we have a lot of ground to cover and very few people with whom to cover it.

Are you looking for more pick-up hubs?

Definitely. If you’re someone with a shop or a restaurant who’d like to work with us (or if you know someone who fits the bill), please contact us.

How did you decide which charities to support?

We found groups and organizations who work with a variety of causes that are of personal importance to us. If you have suggestions of other people or groups we might be able to help, please contact us.

Will things ever get back to normal?

We believe “normal” is overrated. If what you’re doing works for you, then keep doing it.

Do you like my hair?

We do. It’s quite fetching on you.

Are you just saying that?

Of course not. You’re lovely.

Should I change as a person?

It’s entirely up to you. But know that we love you just as you are.

What should I watch on Netflix?

Ugly Delicious and Chef’s Table. Get hungry and get ideas at the same time.

How’d you get to be so cool?

We were born that way. And thanks for noticing.

What if I still have unanswered questions?

Then, by all means, please contact us.
